Biography

Fischer was born to a music-loving family in Leipzig, Germany when the city was still under possession of the Soviet Union. From an early an early age, Fischer gravitated toward music. She began playing the piano followed by percussion and the flute. By the age of five, she began music school. Her perseverance enabled her to attend a special music school in Halle, Germany, followed by studies University of Music "Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" in Leipzig.[2] The fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent reunification of the Eastern Bloc sealed Fischer's future, opening it permanently to the whole of Europe and America.

Professional Career

In 1988, Fischer received a scholarship from the University|of|Music in Munich. There, she continued to study, focusing on the transverse flute and chamber music.

Fischer has performed internationally as a classically trained chamber musician. She specializes in the transverse flute and saxophone, baroque performance practices, and 21st-century music. She is CEO of Leipzig, {{ill|GEDOK|de}}, Europe's largest and oldest network for women artists in the fields of fine arts, applied arts, performing arts, literature and music. [3] Fischer often collaborates with a wide variety of artists, writers and musicians; her musical innovation and experimentation frequently result in blending music with book readings, historical events, works of art and art installations.

Fischer is the recipient numerous awards that span inside as well as outside her musical endeavors, where she is an avid advocate for artists, women, workers, and children's rights. She has been "regarded as one of the most active advocates for women and family policy in Central Germany for more than 20 years."[4]She is the managing director of SHIA: advocates of single parent's rights; serves as chairwoman for the German trade union assembly of the Saxon State Media Authority Ver.di.

She is a member of the jury for the "Young Music Makers" competition and the selection committee for best youth film for "Rascal."[5]

Musical Career

Fischer has performed internationally as a classically trained chamber musician. Tours have taken her throughout Germany, Europe and the United States. Her concerts are sometimes a blend of "baroque, late baroque and impressionistic works for flute and organ as well as romantic organ works."[6] She specializes in the transverse flute and saxophone, and skilled at baroque performance practices and 21st-century music.[7]

Composers, such as, Jörg Duda, wrote his Sonate Finnischer Sommer Op. 35 for flute and piano for Fischer whose Fischer's early performances were particularly inspired by the of the works of J.S. Bach's artistic development, especially towards the music of the Baroque period that was mostly played on original instruments. She devoted herself to Bach's music as a Flutist in the Leipzig junior ensemble "New Music" avant-garde.

Over the years, Fischer expanded on her classical education. Her trajectory from classical allows her to create "new music," that she fuses with non-music (multi-media) thus bringing cross-content projects into to the forefront of her performances.[8] During these concerts, Fischer often improvises her compositions with already recorded music. This is accomplished using a specific sound system and new technologies that allow her weave live improvisation performance with previously recorded music; the result is a complex, fluid "loop" of continuously unfolding music (citation needed).

Mixed-Media & Collaboration

Fischer's musical innovation and experimentation frequently have led her to blend her musical technique with book readings, poetry reading, historical events, works of art and installations. As a result, Fischer collaborates with a wide variety of artists that specialize in mediums.

GEDOK

Fisher's vast constellation of various performances is due in no small part to her role in GEDOK. GEDOK e. V., Europe's largest and oldest network for women artists in the fields of fine arts, applied arts, performing arts, literature and music. The group was founded during the height of the Wiemar Republic in 1926 by German-Jew art patron, Ida Dehmel (1870-1942) in the city of Hamburg where it was known as the "Association of German and Austrian Artists' of all Art Genres." Dehmel's overarching desire was shared with member painters such as Alma del Banco, Anita Rée, Charlotte Behrend Corinth or Clara Westhoff-Rilke, Käthe Kollwitz, Ricarda Huch, Annette Kolb and the dancer Mary Wigman, to promote the artistic talents of women.[9] The association was suspended by the Nazi government. It remained uncultivated until post Cold War. Today, the GEDOK network has over 2600 members that represent 23 cities in Germany.[10]

GEDOK remains a primary source for artists of various disciplines. Exhibitions and performances often showcase a fusion of multimedia built around a shared theme. Themes and disciplines used vary depending on the purpose of the project. Fischer has managed to harness the diverse selection, which has had an impact on the outcome of her music, injecting it with a clear performative political score.

Political Art

In 2011, led by Fischer, a group of GEDOK artists created a collaborative performance that fused two seemingly incongruous categories: classical and street music. In 2013, the group presented, "The Pandora Principle" to raise awareness of chronic inequities between female and males artists "Schkeuditz and the rest of the world - city of aircraft construction - unknown hub" - "la turbolenza" (2016) was used the combination of musical concert and light painting; it was performed in a tram depot in the east Germany city of Schkeuditz used to draw attention to industrial urbanization.[11]

Literature & Performance

Historical fiction writer and poet, Regine Sondermann Regine|Sodderman] and Fischer have blended their talents to put on a number of tours equaling around 30 literary driven, musical performances. Typically, each tour has an underlying theme. In 2018, their tour was comprised of concerts given in villages along the Romantic Highway Romantic|Road]; the route links together a set number of historically significant villages. Because these performances conducted are in a new village and architectural setting, Fischer's musical innovation is able to continuously be reborn. This makes each Fischer and Sondermann presentations entirely unique: every concert is shaped by various factors: architecture, space, history, and literature that Fischer "manages to levitate a theme... and to underlay it with several voices."[12]

Political activist

Fischer's political voice is directly fueled by experiences she faced as a single parent with two children. Juggling musical performances and child care was the tip of the iceberg. Soon, codified inequities solidified through laws became apparent, she reacted by launching herself into the political sphere[13]

This is partly how Fischer came to be "regarded as one of the most active advocates for women and family policy in Central Germany for more than 20 years."[13]

In 2016, Fischer was elected chairman of the panel for Assembly of the Saxon State Media Authority for Media Literacy and Media Ethics. She has been a member of the Assembly since 2004 as a representative of the Family Unity throughout the German state of Saxony.[14].In 2017, she was awarded the Saxon Constitutional Medal. The recipients of the Constitutional Medal are involved in very different volunteer areas but all contribute in an outstanding way to the values of (Saxony's) constitutional being.[15]

That same year, (2017) she was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the City of Leipzig for her dedication as an artist[16] and her ongoing efforts to help children and fellow artists[5] Along with art and music, children have been a focus for Fischer. For many years she been involved in the interests of independent artists and supports gifted children from socially disadvantaged families with the project "Hier spielt die Musik." [17]

Fischer advocates for women's issues, arguing that government need to address gender inequality within its laws. In a 2014 interview with the German online magazine, Frauparanorama, Fischer states:

"Let's take a funny look at tax policy - if the full extent of the "woman dilemma" becomes apparent: if you are married and work part-time - thus working for a lower salary - they naturally become particularly high as the low earner in their marriage also in tax class IV taxed. Which means that her husband receives tax code III and his income is taxed far less than hers due to his being married to you, not because of his huge work, and because he "naturally" owes even more income than you ..."[13]
