The process whereby the scope of a buzzword expands over time due to repeated use of that buzzword to cover seemingly appropriate or adjacent use cases, often in promotional materials so as to be considered part of a new and successful trend. Over time the use of the buzzword becomes commonly accepted to include these extra use cases, and the scope of the buzzword is forever expanded and it's meaning diluted. Generally the scope of a widely used buzzword seldom contracts, it almost always expands over time. Contraction would take general agreement amongst the users of the word, which is hard to achieve in today's environment unless there are either a small number of users of the buzzword, or a small number of very influential users whom others will follow if they publicly define a contracted scope of that buzzword.
