It opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 2004, Disneyland park and Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005, and Disneyland Paris in 2006. The attractions are located within Tomorrowland or Discoveryland areas. The attractions are shooting dark rides that are based off of Toy Story 2 and The Adventure Begins. In 2017, Disney announced that Hong Kong's version of the ride would close to make way for the Marvel themed attraction, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! which will open in 2019. Tokyo DisneylandThis version of the ride opened on April 15, 2004. The original space for this ride was The Timekeeper. This attraction opened on the 10th anniversary of Tokyo Disneyland and closed on September 1 2002 to make way for Astro Blasters. The attraction features the iconic audio Animatronic Buzz Lightyear. Unlike Space Ranger Spin, the queue is much different. Queue and Pre showThe queue begins outdoors. Guests can view a mural of Buzz Lightyear and The Little Green Men(LGM) inside the XP 38 Star Cruiser near Star Command. Buzz is punching the head off of a robot lead by Zurg who is by planet Z. When guests enter the building, they see other murals. One of them is a wanted sign for the antagonist, Evil Emperor Zurg. Another is where the Green Squadron are leaving the base to go fight. Besides the murals, there is an oversized walkie talkie with a Buzz Lightyear on the corner using his wrist communicator. There are then murals where the directions are showing the ride vehicles and the gun used to rack up points, the astro blaster. The walkie talkie provides the back story to the ride and is in Japanese. Guests then enter the briefing room with unique aspects are included. One of them is a computer that has the colors of Buzz Lightyear and has the branding Fujifilm. The guests then encounter the Buzz Lightyear Audio animatronic. The figure holds and Astro Blaster and gives a one minute and eight second piece of dialogue with on the side is an Etch a Sketch which draws pictures on it while Lightyear does his talking. The blaster Buzz is holding is on a timer. At one point, the Etch a Sketch draws a picture of the Evil Emperor Zurg inside his secret weapon the Spiderbot. In the middle of it, there is a Z targert in the middle of it. After the timer goes off, Lightyear's arm is triggered to move up as the blaster lights up and erases the board. After Lightyear gives instructions, and alarm goes off and guests are signaled to go to the flight deck. Guests then board the XP 38 Star Cruiser. In the loading area on the wall, there are different colored arrows leading to a LGM giving you clearence for your flight. RideThe ride begins in outer space. Giant Robots cover the room. An orange robot called the Box o bot(based off ofRock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots is seen on the right where as a red and blue robot called the Giganto bot is on the left. Other bots include the dogbot, the battery bot and others. Riders then enter Zurg's space shuttle the DreadNought. In the hallways, there are many Crystalic Fusion Battery cells which Zurg has stolen. Guests finally see the Evil Emperor as he holds his tri-shooter ion canon. He shoots it at the guests as they shoot the targets. Behind Zurg is his Spiderbot and a floating Planet Z. Sudden alarms go off as Zurg continues to shoot at the guests. They enter the next room where three robots are struggling to keep the crashing ship in the air. If guests shoot the robots, they can hear a variation of Goofy's yelp. The next room is Planet Z. There is a flag stating the name of the planet which is covered with green goo and a lot of aliens. There is also a volcano shooting the green goo. Near the volcano is a cameo of Sid Phillips's pterodactyl toy as seen in the first Toy Story. The next room before the final fight sequence is where Zurg is on his Spider bot laughing in triumph as he shoots the home of the Little Green men as he declares he will destroy Star Command next. Guests then enter a projection tunnel where glowing red zs are on the wall. The final two rooms are then present. Buzz Lightyear is battling Zurg as the Little Green Men disassemble his Spiderbot and his robot army as Zurg is upset and Buzz encourages the guests to help him finish the fight. The final room sees the Little Green Aliens signing a reciept to return Zurg to Al's Toy Barn. Guests have their last chance to shoot Zurg in his box. he swears revenge one day. The blasters deactivate as Buzz Lightyear who is on a screen thanks the riders as they disambark on their journey and check their score on the scoreboard. Disneyland CaliforniaThe California version opened on March 17 2005. Its show building originally housed the Circle-Vision 360° theater. In 1997, as part of a major makeover of Tomorrowland, the Circle-Vision theater was removed and the space became part of the queue for the now infamous Rocket Rods. The Rocket Rods, which were prone to breakdowns, ran from 1998 to 2000. This space was then unused until 2005, when Astro Blasters opened. The Disneyland version is basically the same ride except a few differences. The first difference is that the queue is different then Tokyo's version with none of the unique aspects however the murals are still there. This time after the Buzz Lightyear Animatronic, there is a long corridor with murals of the LGMs testing the astro blaster on a target and one where they are powering the vehicles. The Disneyland vehicles are called the XP 40 star cruisers. And instead of the arrows leading you straight into the scene, the mural from the outside queue in Tokyo is in it's place and a short corridor before the scene. The ride is also dubbed in english for the American audience. And the planet Z floating around in the back round is not present in this version either. Hong Kong DisneylandThe Hong Kong version is the only one similar to Tokyo's version minus the queue and the loading. However, instead of the ride being in Chinese for the people who live in Hong Kong, the ride was in English for the American tourists. Even the XP 38 is in this version. However, on March 3, 2017, it was announced that an Ant-Man themed attraction would be coming to the park in the place of Astro Blasters. Buzz Lightyear himself went to Tomorrowland to accompany the ride before it's closure on August 31, 2017. Buzz Lightyear then went back to Toy Story Land where he is now availible to take pictures. Disneyland ParisThe Paris version of the ride replaced The Timekeeper as well. This version of the ride is called Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. Despite the name change, it is the same ride as Disneyland with minor differences. The first difference is that the queue is longer than the others. The second in the robot attack scene under the Box o Bot's left arm, 9 eye from the Timekeeper is hiding under the arm. The third is that the dialogue switches between French and English for the British,French, and American tourists. See AlsoBuzz Lightyear attractionsToy StoryTomorrowlandWalt Disney World |
