Camille Safiya is an American born Afro-Indigenous artist born in Washington Heights, New York City on March 31st 1990. Her family is from the Caribbean islands of Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico and St.Thomas. She also has German and Hungarian roots from her paternal grandparents.

As a painter, Safiya attended Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia from 2008-2012. While attending university, Safiya continued to work on her music. As a seventh generation musician, she was determined to follow in the footsteps of her ancestors.

After graduating with her Bachelor of Fine Arts, she traveled to Egypt to assist in the excavation of the [https://ikgculturalresourcecenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/HawassI-NewswirePressRelease.compressed.pdf 25th dynasty tomb of Karakhamun], while there she began to write music again and upon her return from the Valley of the Kings and Queens in Luxor, she began recording her first single "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDLuzlRH6MA Immortal Souls]" which peaked the interest of the global community through the french producers Al'Tarba as well as hometown outlets such as Source Magazine, Vibe Magazine, XXL Magazine and more. She released a music video by Director Fred Focus. The success of her single inspired her to record a full length project with producer Frankie P entitled "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6aB5JLFJug&list=PLU752Pm-AsNxBhPr8zaD4OEWOCQ9Gpqya Island Blues : The Sonic Memoirs]" which she recorded and released independently. After receiving a great response on her project, she began performing live through out the East Coast. She then began recording her project "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoUtKVlax3g&list=PLU752Pm-AsNyzjMGrKopCYoG0YJIDn9-c 24K]" which she released in 2014. Following the release of "24K" Safiya was invited to perform at Gramercy Theater, SXSW Festival and NXNE Festival.

As her music career was blossoming, Safiya continued to paint and have art exhibitions throughout the East Coast as well. She was able to get her paintings into the hands of music producer/Art Collector Swizz Beatz. She held a well received art exhibition in Chelsea, NYC called "Anomaly 2013" in collaboration with Gianni Lee's Babylon Cartel and The Nova League by Kelsy Nova that displayed many of her works from Egypt and Ethiopia.

Following the success of her art exhibitions, Safiya switched gears again and released a few more music videos she created with Fred Focus along with the help of her manager Adam Sarraga called "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MDOdRhCjI0 90's Babies]" and "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f55s_Y22rzE 40oz Dreamz]". Shortly after the release of the videos, Safiya began to make deep house music. She wrote and recorded a hit record with producers Serge Devant and Damiano called "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcYuyDMg-_w Fearing Love]" which premiered on Pete Tong's show on BBC Radio and [https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/code/6502527/jamie-jones-lee-foss-emerald-city-song-premiere Billboard]. The music video for "Fearing Love" went on to win music video of the year at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. The trio created a follow up record titled "Thinking of you" which was also praised by BBC and the deep house community worldwide.

After her time in the House realm, Safiya decided to create a stripped down acoustic EP entitled "[https://www.npr.org/2016/04/19/474371090/songs-we-love-camille-safiya-indigo Indigo]" which premiered on NPR alongside her idol Chaka Khan. Her EP was chosen as Tidal's top 10 weekly brew just below Prince and Beyonce. Shortly after the release of "Indigo" she created a music video with Donnell Culver and Stan Chan for the record that struck a chord with the creative community.

Camille Safiya moved to Oakland, California to continue building a band. While at a rally protesting police brutality at San Francisco City Hall, she met another Singer/Songwriter/Producer named Xiomara. The two joined forces and began to build an all women of color owned and operated record label that would come to be known as Futurelic Records along with an 8 piece Funk, Soul, Blues band called [https://thefuturelics.bandcamp.com/ The Futurelics]. The Futurelics released their debut EP entitled "Classic" on 7/7/18 and will embark on their "Classic West Coast Tour" this November/December.
