Canadian Boreal Dog HistoryFinding their foundations through careful and intensive selection within the Alaskan Husky breed, focusing on phenotype, these dogs began under the name Ameri-Indian Husky. As the breed became more consistent in type to the natural dogs, resembling the wolf and coyote, they were redirected under the distinct name Canadian Boreal dog. This was to distinguish them as an intensely Canadian focused breed and distance them from being confused with the breeding program of the North American Indian Dog. AppearanceThe Canadian Boreal Dog is noted for their double agouti masking which, coupled with their heavier front body, often mistakes them for coyote/wolf influenced dogs. Their tails are sickle shaped with allowance for a slight twist. Tails curled over their backs is unacceptable. Muzzle should be refined and pointed on a wedge shaped head with clear, wide eyes. There should be some thickness to their necks coming into a deep shoulder leading into a good heart girth. Backs should not be overly long, must be straight with no slope and hocks should be sickle and front legs pointing eastie-westie. White markings should be limited to some white on the chest and legs and minimal white on the face. White is not acceptable crossing the body and large amounts of white on the face is not acceptable. Eyes can be yellow, gold, brown, and blue. Colours range from golden sable to dark agouti, often with cream colouring around their face/cheeks into their legs. Coats range from short to medium length and are double coated, allowing protection from the elements seasonally. Clipping is strongly frowned upon as it damages the regrowth and removes the natural protection to the elements putting the dog's health at risk. Males range in the size of 22-24" in height and between 50-75lbs Females range in the size of 18-22" in height and between 35-55lbs.[1] References1. ^https://www.isdbr.com/more/our-breeds/344-canadian-boreal |
