The [https://partnershipfortomorrow.ca/ Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project][1][2] (often referred to as CPTP) is Canada’s largest prospective cohort study of over 300,000 Canadians created as a population-health research platform for assessing the effect of genetics, behaviour, family health history and environment (among other factors) on chronic diseases[3][4]. Volunteer participants were recruited from the general Canadian population for a confederation of five regional cohorts ([https://myatp.ca Alberta’s Tomorrow Project], Atlantic PATH, [https://www.bcgenerationsproject.ca BC Generations Project], CARTaGENE, [https://www.ontariohealthstudy.ca Ontario Health Study])[5]. A sixth cohort in Manitoba is currently being recruited to expand the depth of CPTP’s national dataset and biological assets.

Background

Coordinated nationally through the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, CPTP is the result of a decade of collaboration among scientific leaders representing eight provinces. CPTP opened its Access Office and research portal in 2015, providing researchers around the world with access to health and biological data and accelerating new discoveries on how to prevent, detect and treat cancer and other chronic diseases.

As of September 2018, a total of 307 017 participants aged 30–74 from eight provinces were recruited to CPTP. More than half provided a venous blood sample and/or other biological sample[6] , and 33% completed physical measurements. A total of 709 harmonized variables (for example, personal and family history of diseases, alcohol use, sun exposure) were created; almost 25% are available for all participants and 60% for at least 220 000 participants.

Access

A centralized online [https://portal.partnershipfortomorrow.ca access portal] allows researchers who want to obtain core questionnaire data or biosamples from two or more regions to benefit from a “one stop shop” process for exploring and submitting access requests.
