CDEK is an international express delivery company shipping documents and parcels.

The company was founded in 2000 in Novosibirsk, the Russian Federation, to assist an online-store in the delivery of goods across the Siberian Federal District. However, the online store was soon closed and the logistics operator evolved first into a national and then into an international player. The company is based in Novosibirsk.

History

The company was founded on February 25, 2000, as a courier service, to ship orders from Korzina.ru online store across Siberia and the Far East. The company’s name is an abbreviation of Delivery Service Express Courier, transliterated from Russian as CDEK. After a while, investors were no longer interested in the online retailer and switched over to the logistics business development.

At first, the company was focused on domestic delivery within the shortest possible time. So, it developed logistic patterns to deliver goods across the Siberian Federal District within 24 hours. After the delivery process was well-established in the eastern part of the country, the company turned to other regions of Russia.

In 2001, the first Moscow office was opened.

In 2005, the company was operating in more than 1,000 cities in Russia and had about 200 employees.

In 2009, the company adopted the franchise business development model.

In 2011, services for e-commerce business were introduced.

In 2012, the company entered the market of Kazakhstan by opening its office in Almaty.

In 2014, CDEK opened its first offices in Beijing, China, and Minsk, Belarus.

In 2015, the company opened its first office in Kyrgyzstan.

In 2016, the company’s office was opened in Armenia.

In 2018, the company branched out in the United States, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the Czech Republic, South Korea and Lithuania.

Of the beginning of the year 2019, the company operates 1,400 offices in 13 countries: the Russian Federation, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, the Czech Republic, Armenia, the USA, South Korea, Turkey, Lithuania and the United Arab Emirates.

In February 2019 CDEK has launched its first marketplace called CDEK.MARKET^[1]

Awards

In 2015, the company’s franchise project was ranked among the five most successful franchises according to Forbes Russia.^[2]

In 2017, CDEK franchise entered the Top 10 Franchise List according to BeBoss.ru.

In 2018, the company was recognized one of the Top 10 Best Performing Franchises in Russia according to Forbes Magazine^[3].

In 2019, the company was ranked among the Top 10 Franchises in Russia according to BeBoss.ru.^[4]

Owners and Management

The Company’s cofounders are Vyacheslav Piksaev and Leonid Goldort. Leonid Goldort is also the Company’s CEO. The Chairman of the Board is Evgeny Tsatsura.

Business

CDEK delivers urgent and less urgent standard parcels and documents to more than 34,000 cities of Russia, as well as to 220 countries in different parts of the world: United States, EAEU, Europe and Asia. The company has over 1,400 offices, while more than a half of them are franchise locations. Documents and parcels are delivered by more than 5,000 vehicles and more than 6,000 couriers.

CDEK’s head office is in Novosibirsk. The key sorting centres are located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk.
