Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) is a India-based social enterprise that provides certification to teachers^[1]. CENTA provides teachers with opportunities in recognition, career and professional development^[2]. Founded in 2014 with its CENTA Certification and Micro-Credential and Teaching Professional's Olympiad (TPO), CENTA now also conducts the Teaching Quotient (TQ) all of which are based on CENTA Standards. In 2017, CENTA was named a 'Top 60 Social Enterprise in Asia' by Development Bank of Singapore and National University of Singapore as a part of The DBS - NUS Social Venture Challenge Asia^[3].

CENTA Standards

CENTA Standards comprise of competencies defined by CENTA through their research of international teaching standards. The CENTA standards are regularly updated so they remain relevant to teachers at different stages of their careers like new, experienced, and senior teachers^[4]. The standards are categorized in 2 parts namely Competencies and Mindsets. Competencies consist of teaching, fundamental competencies of an individual, and professional competencies whereas Mindsets consist of attitudes and beliefs.

CENTA Certification and Micro-Credentials

CENTA Certification, a teacher certification for Grade 1 to 12, is an assessment of teaching competencies which are structured as five Micro-Credentials^[5]. These Micro-Credentials are Subject Expertise, Classroom Communication, Content Development & Planning, Student Assessment & Remediation and Professional Competencies. They can be taken independently and at different stages of a teacher's career. CENTA Certification is based on CENTA Standards for teaching and connects outstanding teachers to career growth opportunities and professional development^[6].

Teaching Professionals' Olympiad (TPO)

CENTA's Teaching Professionals' Olympiad is an annual competition for teaching professionals conducted at a national level in India, to help them get rewards, recognition and opportunities^[7]. TPO follows a two-hour multiple-choice objective test format, which is highly practice-oriented, with no negative marking. In 2018, TPO was conducted in 49 cities in India and in Dubai, in 20 subject tracks of which Primary track was also available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu.^[8] TPO is held on the second Saturday of December every year and will be held on December 14 in 2019.

Teaching Quotient (TQ)

The Teaching Quotient (TQ) is a verbal and a written assessment, also based on the CENTA Standards. The scores from TQ can be used by teachers on their resumes during recruitment in schools.

Partnerships

Reliance foundation has signed a multiyear collaboration agreement with CENTA. Reliance also became the principal sponsor for the Teaching Professional's Olympiad (TPO) 2018^[9].

Varkey foundation sponsors the winners of TPO to attend the Global Education and Skills Conference by Varkey Foundation at London.
