CGCG element is a DNA motif with the consensus sequence of TCTCGCGAGA and is commonly found in CpG islands-associated promoters in vertebrates^[1]. This element recruits RNA Polymerase II to promote bi-directional transcription. Methylation of this element at CpG sites abrogates its promoter activity.
