Chaim Katzman

Chaim Katzman (born November 4, 1949 in Tel Aviv), an Israeli-American businessman, funder and controlling shareholder a multinational real estate company: Gazit-Globe Ltd. Currently serving as CEO and Vise Chairman of the Company.

Katzman is the founder of Gazit-Globe Real Estate Institute at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya, member of the International Council of Shopping Centers ICSC, served as trustee at ULI – Urban Land Institute, member of The National Association of Real Estate Investment Funds (NAREIT), member of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE) and member of the Board of Trustee at the Tel Aviv University.

Katzman serves as the world president of "LARGER THAN LIFE", an association assisting children with cancer in Israel.

Education

Katzman was born in Tel Aviv in 1949, studied at Tikhon Hadash high school in Tel Aviv.

In 1967, he enlisted to the IDF and served as a youth instructor and a commander until his discharge from the reserve service at the rank of Major. Katzman is a lawyer by profession, while at the same time of studying law (which he began at Tel Aviv University in 1970) he began with entrepreneurship in the field of real estate and real estate financing.

Career

In 1989, Katzman moved together with his late wife, Dr. Shulamit Katzman to reside in Miami and began seeking business opportunities in the field of real estate. One of the first opportunities Chaim located and operate in was the acquisition (1991) of the first commercial center in Miami for Gazit Inc. which was listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, and which he acquired as a shelf corporation that year.

In 1992, Katzman established the EQY Equity One as a wholly owned subsidiary of Gazit Inc., and in 1998 he issued it for the first time on the NYSE “REG”. Katzman served at EQY as its CEO and Chairman since its establishment and up to 2006 and as the Company's Chairman until its merger with Regency Centers (NYSE “REG”) in 2016. In 1995 he began serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazit Globe (TASE “GLB”), which was acquired by Gazit Inc. with other partners. Between the years 2000-2017 Katzman served as Chairman at First Capital Reality (FCR), which was controlled by Gazit Globe, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX “FCR”). In 2010 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Citycon Oyj, a public company registered for trading on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, Finland, which Gazit Globe holds 48% of its shares.

In 2008, Chaim acquired for Gazit Globe the control in European Atrium Company (“ATR”), which is listed for trading on the Stock Exchanges of Vienna and Amsterdam and since then he has been serving as Chairman of the company.

In 2011, Katzman established the Gazit-Globe Real Estate Institute at IDC. In 2018 Katzman was appointed CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Norstar Company- the parent company of Gazit Globe.

In 2017, Katzman commence the establishment of the most advanced cancer center in Israel "Beit Shulamit"- named after his late wife, Dr. Shulamit Katzman who lost the battle to cancer in 2013.

The Center will be set up at the medical campus 'Emek', Afula, on an area of about 11,000 square meters and will include under one roof all that is required in order to detect and treat cancer. The structure is designed by the international architect – Ron Arad. Furthermore, Katzman has established, "Beit Shulamit" at Yeruham, an infant care center and "Beit Shulamit" in Kiryat Malachi, a daycare center for developmentally challenged children. In previous years, the family fund has established a daycare and kindergarten clusters together with the Tel Aviv Foundation.

Personal life

Katzman and his late wife, Dr. Shulamit Katzman, a pediatrician who passed away in 2013, have three daughters. Katzman currently resides in Miami with his second wife, Shelly Katzman, whom he married in 2018.

Awards

2010 – Katzman won the Entrepreneur of the Year Award of Ernst & Young (EY) in the Real Estate industry in Florida.

2013 – Honorary Fellow of the Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya (IDC)

In 2017 Katzman won the "Yakir (Notable) of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra" award for his contribution to the promotion of the international standing of the number one good will ambassador of the State of Israel.
