Chris McGowan (born 1974) is an American sports executive, serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Vulcan Sports & Entertainment (VSE).[1], which includes the Portland Trail Blazers franchise of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL).

Named Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter President & Chief Executive Officer in October 2012[2], McGowan, 45, moved to the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles-based Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), where he spent 16 years, including a final assignment as Chief Operating Officer of AEG Sports. Prior to ending his time with AEG Sports, McGowan was a part of a Stanley Cup Championship run for the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL); an MLS Cup title for the LA Galaxy[3].

Sports Business Journal recognized McGowan’s accomplishments at AEG Sports by naming him to their exclusive “Forty Under 40” list in March 2012[4]. In 2016, McGowan was honored as one of the “Business Executives of the Year” by the Portland Business Journal[5]. Locally, McGowan volunteers as a board member of Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation[6]; Oregon Sports Authority[7]; and the Trail Blazers Foundation[8]

McGowan earned his bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Delaware in 1996, where he was captain of the soccer team. Chris, his wife Susan, and their two sons, Ryan (16) and Kyle (14), reside in Southwest Portland.
