释义 |
In Christianity, messianism is the theological concept regarding the belief in a chosen savior and liberator who is called the messiah and would be anointed by God as king and savior of humanity and more specifically, the Jewish people, ushering in a messianic age or world to come. Christian messianism originated from Jewish messianism, the belief in Jewish saviors and liberators in the Hebrew Bible and the Jewish messiah of Jewish eschatology. The theology of Christianity is primarily based on the belief of Christian messianism, in which Christians believe Jesus to be the Jewish messiah, fulfilling Old Testament messianic prophecy. Though Christian messianism is rooted in Jewish messianism, they share little similarity because of the split of early Christianity and Judaism due to theological differences regarding the role of the messiah and varying interpretations of messianic prophecy.
