Early Life and CareerSarkar was born in New Delhi, India, and was educated at St Columba's School in Delhi and received a degree in English literature from the University of Houston. He is a member of the University of Houston Honors College Advisory Board.[2] Sarkar began his business career at Bechtel where he helped develop BecWeb, the award-winning intranet. [3] Later, Sarkar joined BMC Software, where he was instrumental in developing their online community strategy. [4] In 2004, on the advice of John Hagel he started his own consultancy based on the concept of double loop marketing. The $300 House ProjectThe $300 House Challenge was issued by Sarkar and Professor Vijay Govindarajan in the Harvard Business Review. [5]. The project launched a world-wide innovation contest resulting in a new design paradigm for affordable housing at the bottom of the pyramid. Several companies and start-ups were involved, including Ingersoll-Rand, IKEA, Mahindra Group, and moladi.[6]. The project included field initiatives in Haiti, Peru, Mexico, South Africa, Nepal, and the United States. [7] Brand ActivismSarkar collaborated with Professor Philip Kotler to develop the Sarkar-Kotler framework for Brand Activism.[8].
