Founded in 2014 by Stefano Bellasio and Giacomo Marinangeli^[1], the company graduated from 500 Startups Batch 11^[2] and has its headquarters in San Francisco, California with offices in Mendrisio, Switzerland.

According to the company's official website, Cloud Academy offers a library of pre-built, role-based content covering Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform in addition to cloud methodologies (DevOps, security) and specific technologies (machine learning, IoT, Big Data). Users can access this content through a browser or on Android or iOS.

Functionality

Cloud Academy's platform contains guided training consisting of courses, hands-on labs, and skill assessments^[3] that focus on helping organizations acquire new technology skills.

History

In early 2015, the company received a round of funding from Vertex Ventures^[4].

In October 2018, the company launched two publicly facing resources. Cloud Roster identifies the critical job roles organizations need to drive innovation and Cloud Catalog analyzes thousands of job postings to identify in-demand skills^[5]. The data gathered from Cloud Roster and Cloud Catalog has been compiled into monthly reports including:

• November 2018: Cloud Academy's data report found that multi-cloud adoption is a reality for US enterprise organizations. According to Alex Brower, VP of Marketing at Cloud Academy, an organization saying 'we're using multi-cloud' safely means 'we use AWS and Azure'^[6].

• February 2019: Cloud Academy's data report analyzed the languages professionals need to learn if they are interested in getting into data science. Their data found that Python outpaced other languages and was mentioned in 66% of job posts analyzed^[7].
