The musical is based on the real-life accounts of some of the approximately 200,000 women who were trafficked into sexual slavery by the Japanese Army from 1930- 1945. The musical is directed by Dimo Hyun Jun Kim with musical direction by TekGoo Kang. It was written by Dimo Hyun Jun Kim, Osker David Aguirre, and Joann Malory Mieses, with music by Bryan Michaels and TaeHo Park. ProductionThe show premiered July 31st, 2015 at St. Clement's Theater in New York, New York.[1][2] The show featured the first ever all-Asian Off-Broadway cast led by an East Asian director.[3][4] The show had a revival in 2018 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York City.[5] PlotA young Korean woman, "Goeun", is promised a job in Japan, but is soon transported to Indonesia as one of the comfort women.
