Various techniques from network science, graph theory, natural language processing, machine learning, communication system engineering, data analytics are leveraged to solve hard and interesting problems in this area. HistoryThe group became functional at around 2005 with initially a member strength of six founded by Prof. Niloy Ganguly. Initial works mainly focused on Complex Networks and it's problems. Over the years, the group diversified with the inclusion of experienced people from various domains while increasing in it's strength as well as producing works as they started to get noticed. Research LaboratoriesThere are multiple laboratories to support the ongoing research works. Namely:
PeopleThe members of the “Complex Network Research Group” consist of faculty members, research scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students affiliated to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. We are also working with many external collaborators from reputed national and international organizations. The group currently comprises of seven faculty members, twenty five PhD scholars and four M.S. scholars. It also has various temporary posts for the ongoing projects.[2] The group also maintains active collaborations with people from MPI-SWS, Saarbruecken, Germany, TU Dresden,Germany, TU Darmstadt,Germany, CNRS, France, UFOP, Ouro Preto, Brazil, University of Nice, France, ISI Foundation, Italy, University of La Rochelle, France, UCL, Belgium, UPMC, Paris, ICTP, Trieste, Italy, SUNY, Korea, Notheastern University, US, University of Namur, Belgium, Duke University, USA, [https://www.unomaha.edu/ University of Omaha, USA], Purdue University, IIT Bombay, India, University of Bielefeld, Germany, University of Rome, Italy. A rich crop of Alumni of this group work in prestigious Universities all over the world, along with some mentioned above as PhD scholars, Postdoctoral fellows, faculty members and research students. The group also has collaborations and projects with some the top-notch companies and startups like Microsoft Research, NetApp, Flipkart with many of the members in the Alumni holding esteemed positions in such companies. Project sponsors vary from Adobe, Microsoft Research to government sponsored projects by MHRD,India.[3] Notable works and PublicationsA significant number of research projects such as ActivPass[4],PubIndia[5],UrbanEye to name a few, has been widely acclaimed to be distinctive works in their respective domains.[6] Research work such as that of ActivPass received overwhelming attention from the media including MIT Tech Review[7], as well as BBC coverage[8] amongst the many.
