Jimmy Donaldson, known on YouTube as MrBeast, was the first to do so when he bought billboards and ad space to advertise PewDiePie in his hometown, starting the "Subscribe to PewDiePie" campaign. This set off a chain of several other YouTubers doing the same.[8][9] T-Series surpassed PewDiePie in subscribers due to routine audits for the first time on February 22, 2019. This lasted 8 minutes before PewDiePie regained first place.[10][11] T-Series continued to surpass PewDiePie several times, each with increasingly longer time periods.[4] The massive corporate entity surpassed PewDiePie once again on March 26, staying ahead by 18,000 subscribers. March 27 marked the first day T-Series stayed ahead of PewDiePie for 24 hours, ahead by about 37,000 subscribers. This number reached around 65,000 on March 28, 96,000 on March 29, and over 110,000 on March 30 and March 31.[12] The day after the song was uploaded to YouTube, PewDiePie regained his lead against T-Series, to which he tweeted “big lol” on Twitter, posting a screenshot of the subscribers count.
