At 3:30 AM on 26 February 2019 morning, Indian media claimed 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets of the Indian Air Force infiltrated Pakistani territory by violating Pakistan air space at Line Of Control in Muzaffarabad sector. The controversial strikes were claimed after 12 days of 2019 Pulwama Attack during the time of General elections in India.

India's Claim Of Controversial Surgical Strikes 2.0

After the 2019 Palwama Attack, Modi threatened Pakistan by saying "We are deeply pained by what has happened. Every drop of blood of our slain soldiers shall be avenged (by pointing out Pakistan)"[1] in an election campaign. He also said, "The Indian Armed Forces have been given a free hand and the nation is confident of the valour and bravery of its soldiers". However political analysts viewed his statements as a tool for buying votes[2].

India media reported the infiltration as "surgical strikes 2.0"[3]. NDTV reported the controversial strikes as "100 per cent successful" and went on "exactly as planned"[4].

According to Indian officials, at around 3:30 morning on 26 February, 2019, 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets of the Indian Air Force dropped 1,000 kg bombs on terror launch camps and control rooms of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen by infiltrating into Pakistani side of border for about 19 minutes in Muzaffarabad, Chakothi and Balakot (in Azad Kashmir)[5]. Indian Foreign Secretary VK Gokhale claimed we struck the biggest training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Balakot by infiltrating LoC[5].

ANI News reported[6] that these terror launch pads across the Line of Control were destroyed by the laser-guided bombs, technology provided by Israel. Many Indian news channel broadcasted an alleged video of Indian air crafts crossing Pakistani territory and bombing terror camps. However it turned out the video was old andand fake[7]. Indian analysts viewed the Indian action as retaliation carried in the form of preemptive strikes, two weeks after the terror attack in occupied Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, in which over 40 soldiers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed when a suicide bomber of the Jaish-e-Mohammed exploded a car full of bombs next to a security convoy[8].

Pakistan Reaction On Controversial Strikes

Pakistan called 2019 Pulwama attack as false flag[9] carried out by Indian government allegedly killing majorly Dalit Hindus and Sikhs. These remarks were made after Indian journalists reported [10]that there was a specific IR[11] but the government ignored the intelligence deliberately[12]. Pakistan claimed that Modi backed the attack to gain votes by inciting hatred and violence against Kashmiris and Pakistani people. However Pakistani PM, Imran Khan offered India investigation[13] against any Pakistani involvement in the incident. He said, "If New Delhi provides Islamabad with 'actionable intelligence' on the Pulwama attack we shall take action". However Indian PM, Modi turned down Pakistan's offer of "give peace a chance"[14].

On 26 February, 2019 at 4:42 AM in morning, DG ISPR (Pakistan) tweeted[15] "Indian Air Force violated Line of Control. Pakistan Air Force immediately scrambled. Indian aircrafts gone back. Details to follow". DG ISPR Asim Ghafoor made it clear that Pakistan Air Forcereacted effectively[16] and that there were no casualties due to Indian infiltration[17]. Pakistan said that Indian jets violated Pakistan's air space by infiltrating into the border about 3 miles[19] before they escaped quickly into Indian occupied Kashmir. Right after some time he tweeted again "Indian aircrafts intruded from Muzafarabad sector. Facing timely and effective response from Pakistan Air Force released payload in haste while escaping which fell near Balakot. No casualties or damage"[18].

Pakistan has reacted strongly after Indian misadventure in her territory. PM Imran has called National Security Council (NSC) meeting including heads of institution responsible for controlling nuclear assets[19]. Pakistani Parliament has also condemned the Indian action of attacking Pakistan's sovereignty[20].DG ISPR in his press conference, on evening, he sent a clear message to India in which he said Indian army shall never surprise us. He warned India that now India should be prepared for our surprise. He invited international media to visit the place where India claimed to drop bombs.

However, Pakistan Government has decided to raise the issue of illegal infiltration on international platforms. Pakistan has completely rejected India's claim of surgical strikes[21].
