Craft The World is a 2d sandbox survival video game developed by Dekovir Entertainment and published by Black Maple Games on 24 November 2014. It is available on Steam for Windows and MacOS.[1], and on the App Store for IOS[2]. In the game the player controls a colony of dwarves, and has to give them orders to build, mine, and craft, in order to prepare a fortress that will help them survive the waves of monsters that attack at 40 minute intervals, progressively getting more and more difficult as the game progresses.

Gameplay

In Craft The World the player has to grow a colony of dwarves and transform a dangerous and unpredictable world into a safe home for the dwarves. This is done by giving orders to the dwarves, which will autonomously carry them out.

The game takes place in a procedurally generated world. The player starts with one dwarf, equipped with only a stone knife, a t-shirt, and occasionally a hat. To get additional dwarves the player must earn experience points, which can be earned by executing various actions such as fighting, mining, woodcutting, and crafting. The resources and items obtained during these processes can be used to craft weapons, armour, blocks and tools.

There are 4 different worlds. The Land of New Hope, a lush and green forest world, The Land of Winter Heaven, a cold snowy world, The Land of Dry Winds, a dry desert world, and The Land of Dangerous Caves, a dangerous underground world. Each world is more dangerous than it's predecessor, and in campaign mode the player has to defeat all guardians in a world and repair an exit portal to progress to the next world. In sandbox mode this isn't the case. There the player chooses what world they want to play in when creating the world, without having to have completed all previous worlds.

In campaign mode, the player must progress trough a technology tree in order to unlock new crafting recipes. For example, one can not create complicated pieces of furniture like bookshelves or clocks without first having created simple furniture like chairs or beds. In sandbox mode there is no technology tree. Instead, the player can craft any item for which they have the required resources. However, in sandbox mode crafting recipes aren't given to you when you traverse trough the technology tree. Instead, crafting recipes are dropped at random when mining blocks. To have found a crafting recipe isn't required though, as items can still be crafted when the crafting recipe hasn't been found yet, and the player memorised the recipe from the internet or a previous playtrough.

Every 40 minutes the player's base gets attacked by a wave of monsters, that gets progressively bigger as the player levels up. The player must spend the 40 minutes between the waves on collecting resources and using those to craft weapons, armour, traps, and defences, in order to be prepared for the next wave. There are also other events where your base will be under attack. Every night zombies will randomly spawn, graveyards will produce a big wave of skeletons each night until destroyed, and sometimes a goblin camp will appear, which spawns dangerous goblins until destroyed.

When you have created a modestly sized army of well-equipped dwarves you can start attacking hidden rooms. These are underground rooms containing dangerous mini-bosses such as overseers, guardians, and mechanical guardians. These rooms contain treasure vaults, filled with valuable items, and portal parts, needed to finish the game.
