Craig Callum (born 5 September 1983) is an Automotive Designer most noted for creating the LEGO Speed Champions range of toys. He is not directly related to the other Designer Callums, Ian and Moray.

Early Years

Callum was born in Bedford and shortly after moved to the Suffolk coastal town of Orford. He was an avid watercolour artist until University when he began studying Automotive Design at Coventry University, a lifelong dream.

Career

During University Callum was due to start a work placement with Mg-Rover Group, he was due to start the day the company collapsed. He completed his internship at GIBBS Technologies where he worked on the Gibbs Quadski and Humdinga. He was hired back to GIBBS after completing his studies.

As GIBBS restructured Callum moved on to Ultramotive in Leafield, where he worked on various Automotive projects, but this was cut short when the company went into administration.

Immediately after this Craig moved on to Renault Trucks, where he worked in Interior Design under Hervé Bertrand on the Renault Trucks T.

Craig then took a break in his career to pursue his passion of Snowboarding and Mountain Biking in the Alpine town of Morzine, France.

Callum returned to Design after a two year break with the LEGO Mindstorms range of robotics, designing the EV3 unit and components. He was then taken on full time by LEGO and began work on Ninjago and Chima ranges before creating the Speed Champions range in 2015.[1]

Personal Life

Craig Callum is an Automotive fan, with a number of cars and motorbikes in his collection. He races on the Danish beach of Rømø every year in his Ford Model A hotrod, affectionately known as "Old Red" citing the influence of the illustrator Tex Avery for the name.
