Crowdshipping is a crowdsourced delivery network, where two individuals benefit from helping one another.

[1] In this case, crowdshipping engages someone who is purchasing a product and someone who is delivering or forwarding that product to the buyer, where the buyer otherwise could not have obtained that item by themselves. Majority of the time, the introduction, correspondence and payments between the shipping forwarder and the buyer take place via an online platform or marketplace.

[2]

The industry recognizes three crowdshipping models:

1) Travelers are going to a buyer’s location and are willing to bring the desired item(s) with them in their luggage for a fee. Traveling can be domestically or internationally with means of transportation being by a car, train or airplane.

[3][4][5]

2) Truck drivers, whose route lies in the direction of the buyer, can add a buyer’s package as part of their load for a fee.

[6][7]

3) Shipping enthusiasts who are willing to receive the package shipped only within their country borders. Shipping enthusiast, known as forwarders, can repackage the original package and send domestically or internationally to the buyer.[2]
