Cynthia Hoffmann is a prominent voice teacher on the Vocal Arts faculty of The Juilliard School since 1991 and has served as Chairwoman there from 1995 to 2006. She also teaches on the Voice Faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, The Curtis Institute of Music (adjunct), and The Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Program. Ms. Hoffmann also teaches a class on Vocal Performance at Manhattan School of Music. She serves as a voice faculty member at The Franz-Schubert-Institut with Elly Ameling in Baden Bei Wien. Ms. Hoffmann is among the notable voice teachers such as Oren Brown, Stephen King, Barbara Honn and Laura Brooks Rice interviewed in Elizabeth Blades-Zeller's A Spectrum of Voices: Prominent American Voice Teachers Discuss the Teaching of Singing. Her students have gone on to sing in many major opera houses and concert halls throughout the world including The Metropolitan Opera , Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Santa Fe Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Canadian Opera Company, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and New York City Opera among others. They have won many of the major vocal competitions including the Metropolitan Opera National Council, Richard Tucker Foundation Study Grants, Marilyn Horne Competition, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, George London and Puccini Foundation Study Grants, Sullivan and Opera Index Awards, "The Joy in Singing" award recital, Operalia, the Liederkranz Foundation’s General Opera Competition, The Metropolitan Opera's Beverly Sills Award, and The Gerda Lissner Foundation's Lieder Competition. Among her notable students are Susanna Phillips(Met Opera National Council '05), Guang Yang, Ronnita Miller, Meagan Miller (Met Opera National Council '99), Timothy McDevitt, Will Liverman, Miles Mykkanen (Met Opera National Council '19), William Guanbo Su (Met Opera National Council '19), Stacey Tappan, Jason Ferrante, Alexander Hajek, and Fleur Barron. As a performer, she has appeared as a soloist with the L.A. Philharmonic Ensemble; U. Redlands Choir, NBC-TV; WGBH, Boston. Ms. Hoffmann received her B.M. from the U. of Redlands, M.A. from Columbia University Teacher's College, and Professional Studies at U.S.C. Her teachers include Larra Browning, Daniel Ferro, Oren Brown, Margaret Harshaw, Vera Rozsa, Beverley Peck Johnson, and Margaret Schaper.
