Born in Amos, in the province of Quebec, on October 24, 1952, to a French-speaking family, she has two brothers and one sister. She lived in the Abitibi area of Quebec for the first 12 years of her life, then in the Montreal area and New Brunswick, before moving to British Columbia in 1974.^[1]

She left the Masters of History program at the University of Victoria to work for Radio-Canada, the French national broadcasting corporation in Canada. She worked there for over 33 years, mostly as a researcher, host and producer. Retiring from Radio-Canada in 2009, she started writing children’s books and magazine and newspaper articles in both French and English. She has also penned the English translations of her first four books.^[2]

Her audience is children between the age of four and nine. Her current books are colourful and illustrated by different artists.^[3]

Her stories usually take place in Western and Northern Canada, and her themes often focus on personal responsibility and community help.^[4]^[5]

Marcotte is married and has two children.
