Daniel Manton (April 25, 1743 - November 14, 1808) was a Captain in a troop of Light Horse Cavalry in the Rhode Island Militia Providence County Regiment (ca. 1774)[1] during the American Revolution and later became a Colonel. He was elected as a delegate from the Colony of Rhode Island to the US Continental Congress in 1787 but did not attend. He was very conspicuous in the civil and religious matters in his own town[2]. His father Edward Manton was an associate of Roger Williams and one of the first settlers in Providence, Rhode Island[3]. The Manton family became so prominent in the town's business that the neighborhood of Manton, Providence, Rhode Island bears their name today.
