Danny Draven (born May 10, 1978) is an American born filmmaker of Irish-Jewish decent. He is an award-winning writer.^[1], director and producer of primarily genre films & TV.

Early Life

Danny Draven was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 10, 1978. At 16 he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Berklee College of Music. Half through his education there he realized he did not want to be a musician but a filmmaker instead. Soon after, he transferred to Emerson College and attended the film school there.

Career As Film Director

After receiving his film degree from Emerson College, he moved to Hollywood and worked his way up through the ranks until he began producing and directing sci-fi/horror films for independent genre studio Full Moon Pictures (Puppet Master (franchise) Series, Trancers). He directed several films for Charles Band and Full Moon Features, such as Horror Vision (2001) in which he worked with legendary cinematographer Mac Ahlberg, Cryptz (2001), Dark Walker (2002), Deathbed (2002) which is produced by legendary horror director Stuart Gordon, and Reel Evil (2012).

He soon started his own production company, Lukan Pictures. He has edited over 100 feature films, including films for Lionsgate, NBC Universal's Chiller TV and the SyFy Channel. He has also worked with executive producer Mark Ordesky (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and Criminal Minds executive producer Harry Bring (X-Files).

In 2016, he directed Terror Films anthology Patient Seven starring Michael Ironside (Total Recall, Scanners), and featuring segments starring Amy Smart, Alfie Allen and Doug Jones (actor). The film was a popular top 15 horror film on iTunes and has been praised by numerous critics, one calling it "one of the greatest anthologies of the last decade."^[2]

Career As Film Producer

In 2018, he was tapped to produce several family films with director William Butler. Draven is also a long-time member of Producers Guild of America (Producer's Council).

Book Author

In 2009, major book publication company Elsevier (Focal Press) tapped Draven to write a book on filmmaking. Draven's concept The Filmmakers Book of the Dead^[3] was published in 2010 and received critical acclaim and praises across the U.S. and overseas. The second edition was released in 2016 ^[4]. The book was also translated an released in China^[5]. Following the book's success, Elsevier asked Draven to write the second book, Genre Filmmaking, released in 2014 ^[6]

In 2017, Draven went on to write a third book called Talk You To Death^[7], released the same year, which features interviews with legendary filmmakers, actors and film composers.
