Darrah Brustein

Darrah Brustein (born November 13, 1983) is an American entrepreneur and author. She is the Founder and CEO of Network Under 40[1][2], as well as the co-founder and CEO of the merchant processing company, Equitable Payments[3]. Brustein authored the children's financial literacy book Finance Whiz Kids[4][2] and is a regular contributor to Forbes[5] and Thrive Global[6].

Early Life

Brustein was born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in a small town called Harleysville on a historic horse farm[7]. She spent her childhood in the Baltimore area[8], and was raised by her parents along with her twin brother (now business partner[9]) and older brother.

Education

Brustein graduated from Emory University with a BA in 2006, double-majoring in Religious Studies and Italian[7], with a concentration in black and white film photography.

Early career

Following graduation, Brustein began her career as a wholesale fashion rep[10] working a sales role covering the Southeast US, selling premium denim to boutiques and department stores. Learning through this that she had a knack for sales, when the company went under three months after she bought a home at age 23[7], she parlayed that into stints in in-house sales for fashion brands, being a personal assistant, and doing sales for a luxury home automation company.

As the economy took a downturn around 2008, she was laid off from each of these roles. Because of that, Brustein decided that working for oneself was no less stable than working for someone else, so she set off to start her entrepreneurial journey.

"Life by Design, Not by Default"

In the fall of 2018, Brustein launched "Life by Design, Not by Default[3]" featuring leaders like Deepak Chopra and Adam Grant in a 45 speaker online summit. Brustein is launching a video series with Deepak Chopra called “Diving Deep With Deepak & Darrah” in early 2019.  Her work now helps others to build a life of their own design[11], a career to fund it, and a network[12] to support it[3].

Brustein resides in Atlanta, GA[17] with her partner Brendan and cat Chairman Meow. They split their time between Atlanta and working remotely around the world.
