}}Data Rescue is a software package that recovers lost files due to hard drive failure, drive corruption and user error. The software was developed by Prosoft Engineering, Inc. in 2000.[1]

Technology

Data Rescue provides recovery from internal and external HD, SSD, and Flash media of MacOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems.[2] It recovers data from FAT (FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32), ExFAT, ext2, ext3, HFS+, and NTFS file systems, supports various filetypes and has secure erase file deletion. The package offers clean user interface and extensive configuration options to boot. It allows Standard License and Professional License users to activate their software directly.[3][4]

The feature set includes Quick Scan that can find most of the files on the drive in just a few minutes if your drive's directory structure is intact. Deep Scan method uses advanced techniques to recover data, even when a drive has severe issues. Deleted File Scan can recover just about any recently deleted file, which can bail you out if you accidentally delete a file. Cloning the data to another drive will allow you to use Data Rescue on the clone, when your drive has severe problems. The Analyze feature tests the drive's ability to read data across the entire drive and FileIQ allows Data Rescue to recognize new file types when you attempt to recover lost files.[5][6][7]

Data Rescue does not allow you network access, so you cannot remotely run the software on a computer in your network.[8]
