David R. Brill (born July 6, 1948, Bramhall, Cheshire ) is a British origami artist and painter. He is acknowledged to be one of the leading origami creators in the world,known for his elegant designs, which cover a wide range of origami styles including living subjects as well as geometric and modular constructions. his best-known design is a horse folded from a triangular sheet of paper. He is also an oil painter, having exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and in numerous local exhibitions. He was the first to be awarded the Sydney French medal in 1992 by the British Origami Society and was the Chairman of the BOS from 1995 to 2004. He is currently the President of the BOS and is also an honorary member.[1][2] OrigamiBrill was introduced to origami at the age of 5, when he learned the traditional flapping bird. He joined the British Origami Society in 1974, and met many other enthusiasts who encouraged him to develop his own designs. His book Brilliant Origami was published in 1996 and sold more than 25000 copies before going out of print 10 years later. He has travelled around the world to share his origami skills at numerous conventions and exhibitions. PaintingDavid Brill began to study painting at evening classes in the late ’70s, attending portrait painting and life classes, where his teachers were Manchester artists Peter Shaw and Alan Thompson. In the ’80s, he painted enthusiastically and had a success with acceptances at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibitions of 1990 and 1993. He continues to paint regularly and to participate in local exhibitions.
