David Grice (Born 1946) is an English painter, scupltor, printmaker, photographer and mixed media artist. He is also a writer of surreal humour, rhymes and anecdotes. Grice is a pioneer in the cutting edge use of found and discarded objects, which began to appear in his work in the decade of the 1960's. Also, Grice is the originator and inventor of “Super Surreal Baroque”. David Grice was born at Saltaire, West Yorkshire, UK, in the shadow of the now famous Salts Mill, which now houses the David Hockney collection at Salts Mill & 1853 Gallery[1] Life and WorkDavid Grice is the second son and the fourth of five siblings. His father was an ex-coalminer and his mother was a woolen cloth weaver in the west riding textile industry. Grice went to Bradford College of Art (1962 - 1966) and like David Hockney he enrolled into the Graphic Design course, but preferred to learn multi disciplines in the fine arts departments instead of following one particular curriculum course. At Bradford Grice met and befriended artist and writer Jeff Nuttall (1933 - 2004) with whom he did several projects, including two group exhibitions, a film for a German production company and a television programme for London weekend TV. Grice was associated with the Yorkshire surrealist artists [Anthony Earnshaw]] (1924 – 2001) and Patrick Hughes (born 1939) showing works at the Flegeling, but now famous Angela Flowers Gallery in London’s Soho. Flowers’ partner the journalist Robert Heller collected several Grice works. David Grice has produced several series of works including his Antwerp suite whilst living amongst the Hasidic Jewish Community in Antwerp Belgium and his Super Surreal Baroque sculpture series whilst living in southern Spain. Grice has lived and worked in UK, Belgium & Spain he has also traveled widely in Europe, USA, and Australia. He is married to the artist Carol Ann Grice (B. 1949) and his twin daughters are the artist Klio Le Grice (b. 1968) and the eminent scientist: professor Kliti Grice (b. 1968).
