David Hemingson

David Hemingson (born July 26, 1964) is a producer, writer, and director known for creating the TV shows Whiskey Cavalier (2019), Kitchen Confidential (2005), and The Deep End (2010).

Currently, Hemingson is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the ABC spy dramedy Whiskey Cavalier, starring Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan.[1]

Early life and education

David Hemingson was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 26, 1964, and raised in West Hartford. He is an alumni of the Watkinson School in Hartford, CT. Hemingson graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in American Studies in 1986, and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1990. After graduating, he practiced entertainment law at the Century City law firm of Loeb & Loeb until 1994, when he decided to pursue television writing.[2]

Career

After writing spec scripts for The Larry Sanders Show, Hemingson started his career writing for the third season of the Nickelodeon comedy The Adventures of Pete & Pete. He went on to write for the shows For Your Love and Jessie before moving on to a three-year stint on Just Shoot Me! Other credits include American Dad!, Family Guy, How I Met Your Mother, Lie to Me, Traffic Light, Bones, Black-ish, and The Catch.

In 2003, Hemingson inked a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV and stayed for a decade.[3]

In 2005, Hemingson created Kitchen Confidential, based on Anthony Bourdain’s best-selling memoir about a bad boy chef’s adventures in the culinary underbelly.[4] He was nominated for a WGA Award for “Best Episodic” for the pilot “Exile on Main Street.”[5]

Hemingson has directed multiple episodes of the single-camera comedy series Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, where he also served as an executive producer / co-showrunner, alongside creator Nahnatchka Khan.[4]

Hemingson created The Deep End in 2010, an hour-long prime-time legal dramedy on ABC.[2]

After the decade-long stint at 20th, Hemingson closed an overall deal in 2014 with ABC Studios.[4]

Hemingson is represented by WME and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.[4]

Personal life

Hemingson has been married to Victoria Morsell since September 19, 1998. They have two children.[6]
