David Wetherill Carmody (April 22, 1908–April 25, 1976) was a Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court from January 1, 1959 until his retirement on April 30, 1969. He served as Chief Justice in 1965 and 1966.

Born in Denver, Colorado to Thomas E. Carmody, a physician, and Mary Jane (McBride) Carmody.[1]

{{quote|David W. Carmody received his preliminary education at the public schools of his native town, and was graduated A.B. in 1931 and LL.B. in 1933 at the University of Colorado. Admitted to the New Mexico bar in 1935, he became assistant district attorney of the State of New Mexico in that year and served as district attorney during 1937-47. Also, during 1933-47 he engaged in a private practice of law in Santa Fe, N.Mex. In the last-named year he was appointed judge in the First Judicial District of New Mexico, where he served until 1959.[1]}}{{quote|For three consecutive years, 1953, 1954, and 1955, Carmody was president of the Judicial Council of New Mexican Judges. He was a delegate to the 1969 New Mexico Constitutional Convention. From 1938 to 1942, he was president of the Santa Fe City Council. Carmody pioneered for a merit system to select judges in the state of New Mexico, and was deeply concerned with the rehabilitation of young offenders.[1]}}

Following his retirement, Carmody moved to Bradenton, Florida, where he resided until his death.[2]
