Tarr, wishing to become a journalist, took a broadcast production class, and was an anchor on the schools news during her junior year. During the shooting, Tarr was in her journalism class where she, her teacher, and 18 students hid in a closet.[4][5] Activism and advocacyTarr first spoke along with her classmates on February 17, 2018 at a rally for firearm safety in Fort Lauderdale where she criticized the gun laws that allowed the firearms to be purchased.[6] On February 20, 2018, Tarr and several other students went to the Florida state capital where she spoke: (insert quote).
