Delta Air Lines Flight 1554 registration N530DA, was an international flight heading operated by Delta Air Lines using a Boeing 727-232. The aircraft had known issues with the oxygen system in the past. In October 1989, 6 claims of low oxygen quantity has been reported to delta for this aircraft. Where the fire was located prevented the pilots from being able to go back to the cockpit and notifying airport personnel. The passengers evacuated through the aft emergency exit. The cause of the accident is related to the oxygen bottles as the explosion came from the oxygen bottle storage area. VictimsThe 727 had 19 total passengers aboard at the time of the explosion. 7 crew and 12 passengers. 5 people were reported to have minor injuries and where able to evacuate the aircraft. The rest had no injuries and where able to evacuate the aircraft without further injuries. The second office which was last to leave exited through the window exits. He was unable to find another exit due to the thick smoke in the cabin at this stage of the accident. The floor guidance lighting was not able to be activated due to non of the crew members being able to access the cockpit. AircraftThe aircraft involved was a Boeing 272-232 registered as N530DA with serial number 21813. The aircraft got the airworthiness certificate on 01/03/1980.
