During her time in Thailand, she continued teaching and worked as a library assistant for 23 years.[2] Her work in Phuket included outreach programs with local children where she, as well as other locals led activities to engage local children in reading and writing activities. She had been noted for saying "The idea is that Book Week promotes the love of reading. If it is fun, entertaining and fits all levels of abilities, it really works," on many occasions both in her native Canada and abroad.[3] There, she taught English, but also life to children who are sent to school from an early age, sometimes even before 2 years. She started her writing career during her years as a teacher in Thailand.[4][5] She also served as the BIS academic resource manager. in September 2003, Therrien, the head librarian at a British college and fluent in Thai, had signed up with the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok as a volunteer warden to assist Canadian nationals in emergencies.[6] Kamon not only taught but was also noted humanitarian recognized by the Canadian government for her efforts to assist in the 2004 Tsunami.[7] As a Canadian volunteer, Diane Therrien of Trois-Rivières, who has lived in Thailand for 15 years assisted in the post Tsunami relief. When telephones were scarcely functioned, she visited hospitals and hotels all over the Phuket region, searching for Canadians and finding dozens of survivors. Then she spent three days in the resort town of Krabi, where hundreds of bodies of tsunami victims had arrived from the devastated resorts of Phi Phi island. Along with a Thai friend, she worked for 12 hours a day. They visited hospitals, police stations, immigration offices, the ferry port where the corpses were arriving and the Chinese temple where they were stored. They rented equipment and hotel rooms for emergency workers. They helped the survivors get on airplanes to leave the region. They gathered photos of the dead and searched carefully for a missing Canadian woman, Rubina Wong, hoping to identify her by her dragonfly and goldfish tattoos. "I felt it was my duty," said Ms. Therrien, who as the head librarian at an international school in Phuket at that time. [8] More articles were written about her efforts after the Tsunami. In 2008 Ms Therrien and colleges through the charity initiative, Friends of BIS, bought school uniforms for students in the local area.[9] WritingTherrien has published over 60 titles since 2009.She writes in both French and English has no affiliation to any publishing house.[2] Her books and book series often make reference to life of a 21st-century child with tittle that tackle a wide array of issues.
