CareerDiego Biasi started his career in the investment banking and finance industry in London (1997) where he worked for Caboto Securities, the British investment banking arm of Banca Intesa[2]. In 1999, he became Managing Director at Banca Imi and in 2001 he moved to Commerzbank, where he oversaw several corporate finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions[3]. In 2009, Biasi focused on the renewable energy market and, together with Simone Borla, he founded Quercus, a fund specializing in utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure[4]. Thanks to the successful launch of the first two funds, Quercus was able to build a portfolio of some 22 utility-scale plants with a strong pipeline and structuring debt facilities for around EUR 300m in its first four years. In 2011, Biasi held a leading role in Quercus’ joint venture with CDC, Foresight, Adenium Capital and VEI Capital[5]. A year later, he brought Quercus into a joint venture with the UK government-owned company UKGIB (UK Green Investment Bank) with an aim to build the London-based TEG Biogas plant. In September 2017, Biasi signed an unprecedented framework agreement with the Iranian government for the development, construction and operation of one of the world’s largest Solar PV plants totalling 600MW. This was the largest single investment in the energy sector in Iran since the lifting of international sanctions[6][7][8][9][10]. Philanthropic workDiego Biasi is Founder of the Quercus Foundation, which works to improve the lives of children and young people living in extreme poverty[11]. With a focus on health, education and infrastructure, it identifies and invests in projects that make the most significant improvement to children’s lives in the long term. In October 2017, Quercus Foundation contributed to the opening of the largest Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in sub-Saharan Africa, significantly improving the intensive care services delivered to critically ill and injured children in the region[12].
