{{AFC submission|d|reason|This looks to me like the basis of a perfectly suitable article, but it needs editing to make it more objective, and to remove personal judgements. For example, what is "useful" is a matter of opinion, as is what is "important", and what is or isn't "impossible to think of".|u=Alextal|ns=118|decliner=JamesBWatson|declinets=20190102110633|ts=20190102100740}}

Definition

Digital politics is a field of study of political science dealing with the apparition of social media as a mean of political communication. Even though it can be dealt in other field of enquiry, it is useful to envisage it in its political scientist angle in order to grasp changes that occurred in the way to make a political campaign. Thus, Digital politics study "how politicians employ the internet to reach, court and mobilise citizens and about how citizens rely on the web to inform themselves and engage with others politically"[1]

Political Campaign and political communication

In 2008, political communication on social media played a role in the elections of Barack Obama[2]. Lately, the election of Donald Trump enhanced the importance to consider the impact of social media on electorate. Digital politics is a new field of enquiry that aims to understand changes in the way a political campaign is held. It is indeed nowadays impossible to think of a campaign without envisaging internet communication.

The characteristics of digital in the politics world are multiple. First, it is important to notice a change regarding the way debate among citizens is held: horizontality is the key word in this regard. Compared with a television driven campaign where politician communicates with a journalist, the later reporting the former's arguments, internet communication permits a direct relationship between citizens and politician.[3]

Social Movements

Social media helps citizens to show their voices outside the traditional realm of the political system. Indeed, social movement such as the "Gilet Jaune" wouldn't be possible without the help of social media, where the gathering of the common opinions took place [4].
