Doc Butler

Doc Butler (born James Harry Butler, 28 October 1981) is a British actor, writer, director and artist.^[1] He has acted in several television series, feature films and web series. He plays the character [https://coronationstreet.fandom.com/wiki/James_Woodgate James Woodgate] in ITV's Coronation Street^[2] and playing Terry in the comedy series World of Beercraft (which he also writes and directs). Doc co-owns Little Balloon with his brothers (Oobah Butler, Peter Butler and John Butler) which produces comedy films and series. Doc has worked closely with Oobah Butler in recent years on various projects for Vice. Doc is currently in post-production with his debut feature film A Morbid Fascination.

Biography

The son of a funeral director and a record dealer, Doc Butler originates from the tiny village of Feckenham in Worcestershire. Since October 2009 he has been based in London as an actor, writer, director and artist. In 2010 Doc began his professional acting career by playing Kieran in the UK debut of American dark comedy [https://martincasella.weebly.com/the-irish-curse.html The Irish Curse] by Martin Casella at the Above The Stag Theatre, London.^[3] In 2011 he released his first short film In The Bin which he wrote, directed and starred in. The same year he also featured as OTT Stylist in Martin Scorsese's Hugo. He then joined the theatre company Handplay, where he acted alongside Harry Meacher and Judi Bowker on many productions, including Tartuffe^[4] and The Warden.^[5]

In 2014 Doc starred in short comedy thriller, Taste, which was runner up at the Portobello Film Festival.^[6]

His TV breakthrough role was playing the lead, Niels H, in UKTVs Nurses Who Kill 2016.^[7] The same year after working with his brother Oobah Butler on various projects for Vice he played Chris in an episode of The Eggheads on BBC Two, that Oobah had constructed as a prank for an article.^[8] Doc went on to collaborate and feature in the Shed At Dulwich prank, where Oobah created a fictitious restaurant that became the number 1 in London on Trip Advisor.^[9]

In September 2017, Doc had an accident whilst on a moped in Vietnam. He was hit by a HGV and suffered critical injuries. Since then he has been declared disabled, with mobility issues due to musculoskeletal, nerve and spinal damage. From this time on he has been working as a disabled actor.

December of that year through Little Balloon he released comedy beer review show World of Beercraft. As well as playing the character Terry, he is both the shows creator and director.

Doc is in post-production with his debut feature film A Morbid Fascination, which is a fictional dark comedy based around two characters who live inside a cemetery that Butler wrote, directed and stars in.
