lic. iur. Doris Russi Schurter (born 1956 in Andermatt) is a Swiss lawyer. She holds various mandates in boards of directors at major Swiss companies. For this reason, according to the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRF, she is considered "one of the most influential business women in Switzerland".[1] EducationRussi Schurter studied law and earned her MA (Lizentiat) at the University of Fribourg in 1980 and was admitted to the Uri Bar Association as a lawyer and notary public in 1983. She then completed various training and ongoing education courses in Switzerland and the US, among others at Georgetown University and Harvard Business School.[2] CareerRussi Schurter worked as a lawyer for Fides Treuhandgesellschaft and KPMG Fides Basel from 1983 to 1992. From 1993 to 2005, she worked at KPMG in Basel and Lucerne, where she held various management positions as a lawyer and partner, most recently from 1994 to 2005 as site head of KPMG Lucerne. She also acted as President of the Commercial Register of Central Switzerland (today Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Central Switzerland) from 2000 to 2004.[3][4] Since 2005, Russi Schurter has worked as a self-employed lawyer at the Burger & Müller law firm in Lucerne. She works in commercial law, advises private individuals in succession planning and provides services in the trust and family office area as well as foundation law. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.[4] MandatesRussi Schurter has held various board of director mandates since 2001. For instance, she is Chair of the Board of Directors of Helvetia Insurance. She assumed this office from Pierin Vincenz in 2018.[5][6][7] She is also Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Luzerner Kantonalbank.[8] Russi Schurter is also a member of the Board of Directors of Swiss International Air Lines and President of the Association of Swiss Companies in Germany (VSUD).[3][9] Russi has also been member of the Board of Directors of the national power grid company Swissgrid and Chair of the boards of the directors of LZ Medien Holding and Patria Genossenschaft.[4] As a member of the Foundation Board of the Student Mentor Foundation Lucerne, Russi Schurter lobbies for affordable homes for students. The foundation has built student homes in Lucerne for 280 people.
