Her research interests include Indigenous Knowledge systems and methodologies, Dena/Athabascan oral traditions and languages, Indigenous higher education, and Alaska Native pedagogy frameworks [1]. While studying the importance of indigenous language revitalization, Dr. Leonard has elucidated the potential contributions of indigenous and cross-cultural education.

Early Life

Raised in a traditional subsistence lifestyle, Beth Leonard is Deg Xit’an Athabascan and a member of the Shageluk Tribe of interior Alaska. Deg Xinag is the local language for the Athabascan villages in western, interior Alaska [2].
