The club offers instruction to pilots both new and experienced and all instruction is carried out in two seater dual control gliders[3] and motor gliders (SLMG/TMG). The club also offer trial lessons to members of the public wishing to either learn to fly or just experience unpowered flight. The club has a fleet of aircraft available for members to rent and also allows members to base their own aircraft on site. All instruction is carried out on a voluntary basis and members are expected to assist in the running and maintenance of the airfield. The club offers winch and aerotow launch methods. East Sussex Gliding Club is affiliated to the British Gliding Association.[4] FacilitiesClubhouseThe clubhouse is well equipped with a kitchen, social/briefing room, and bar. HangersThe club has two hangers containing a mixture of club aircraft, ground vehicles, and private aircraft. Hangarage for private aircraft is available but this is normally only used by TMGs. Trailer ParkMost of the privately owned aircraft based at the club are stored in their trailers. This is much cheaper than storing them in a hanger. Launch methodsAerotowAerotows at ESGC are usually carried out using a piper super cub. The club is limited to only be able to operate one tug aircraft at a time due to planning restrictions. Winch[5]Winch launches are carried out using the club's twin cable winch. A winch launch will typically get you up to around 1200ft. This is the most common form of launch at the club primarily due to its low cost. Self launchThis is the least used launch method at the club. The only club aircraft capable of self launching is the H36 Dimona but there are other private SLMGs and TMGs based at the club. Junior PilotsThe club offers two different schemes for junior pilots. The first is open to anyone under the age of 25 and offers half price membership, glider hire, and winch launches. The second scheme is only available for students of a local secondary school and offers further reduced rates. Reduced rates are not offered on aerotows or motor glider hire.
