Elation Health is an electronic health record (EHR) company founded in 2010 that offers physicians and medical professionals a Meaningful Use-certified, cloud-based charting tool that includes patient scheduling, a patient portal, e-prescribing, and e-faxing.[1] The SaaS startup, based in San Francisco, California, serves clinical users in independent practices, direct primary care, and concierge medicine.[2]

Background

Elation Health is focused on providing the “Clinical Fist Difference” which they outline as a philosophy to building a provider-centric product that exists at the core of the clinical workflow, supporting the physician-patient relationship, and driving patient outcomes.[3] The company’s product marketing focuses on its intuitive tools that enable providers to be more productive and in turn, deliver better care.[4]

Elation’s mission, is to “Strengthen the relationship between patients and physicians, and enable phenomenal care for everyone.”[5]

Elation Health integrates with over a hundred laboratory, imaging and hospital partners, from national partners like Labcorp, Quest Diagnostics, and LABDAQ to regional partners like Clinical Labs of Hawaii. They also interface with the Cottage Health and Clinisync health information exchange, integrate with practice management systems like Kareo, Hint Health, AdvancedMD and PracticeSuite, and are used in tandem with 3rd party platforms like Zentake for intake forms, Surescripts for e-prescribing, and Fitbit Plus for chronic care management.[6]

History

In 2010, siblings Kyna and Conan Fong[7] co-founded Elation Health[8] out of a need to help their father, Dr. Dennis Fong, find a health IT system for his primary care practice[9] based in Walnut Creek, California. Kyna Fong, previously an assistant Economics professor at Stanford University, left her tenure-track career in academia[10] to run the company with her brother, Conan, who holds a background in healthcare management consulting.[11]

They created Elation Health, previously ElationEMR, as a healthcare startup dedicated to strengthening the physician-patient relationship.[12] Shadowing physicians and watching how they use patient medical records in their practices, helped them design Elation with the goal of making it easier for physicians to provide comprehensive, personalized and proactive care to their patients.[13]

As of 2016,[14] Elation Health has closed 2 rounds of venture funding (Series A and B). Investors from their Series B funding round[15] include DFJ,[16] Co-founder of Quora and creator of the Facebook Platform and Facebook Connect, Charlie Cheever, and former Stanford Hospital Clinics CEO Martha Marsh.[17]

Products

  • Elation EHR: A clinically focused electronic health record solution for physicians looking for a fully ONC-ATCB certified EHR along with patient scheduling, a patient portal, e-prescribing, and e-faxing. It is cloud-based and accessed through a standard Web browser with any Mac or PC.[18]
  • Elation Patient Passport: An online portal for physicians and their patients to securely share and communicate regarding their health information. Patients have access to their critical health information - allergies, visit summaries, problems, history, current medications, reports, immunizations, legal and specialists.[19]
  • Elation Provider Network (EPN): The EPN simplifies the secure sharing of clinical data with patients and physicians with a directory of providers and their staff, who use Elation or collaborate with Elation users. The EPN works by automatically identifying the providers who have cared for your patients based on clinical interactions. After identifying relevant collaborators, the EPN verifies providers’ contact information to make it easy for physicians to connect with past and present collaborators.[20]
