释义 | BIRTH Emmanuel Lyambee Jime is a lawyer and politician, born on 20th June, 1962 to the family of a police officer, Pa Jime Tsav of Anter in Mbalagh Council Ward of Makurdi Local Government Area, and Mama Usase Jime (née Amange), from Mbaatsa, Mbabai Council Ward of Guma Local Govt Area, both of Benue State. EDUCATIONJime began his quest for knowledge at St. Williams Primary School, Keffi from 1968-74 and then proceeded to Community Secondary School, Makurdi (1974-79) where he got his West African School Certificate (WASC). His attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied law from 1980-83 and obtained an LLB. After graduation he moved on to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos from 1983-84 where he obtained a BL and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984. WORK AND PROFESSIONAL CAREERUpon successful completion of his mandatory national youth service in Port Harcourt, Jime began a career at LUWA Chambers, Makurdi which was owned by the late Barr. Gbihi Vembe. Barrister Jime worked there for a few years before setting up his own practice LOBI Chambers where he was a principal partner. At the same time, he served as Legal Counsel to Makurdi Local Government for six months prior to his launch into partisan politics in 1991. After his stint at the Benue State House of Assembly, Barrister Jime returned to legal practice with a new firm known as AMINCI Chambers in Abuja. POLITICAL CAREERIn 1992, Barrister Emmanuel Jime ran for the Makurdi North state constituency seat in the Benue State House of Assembly (BNHA) on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP and won. He was subsequently elected Speaker, BNHA at the age of 30 years making him one of the youngest in the country at the time. His tenure in the State House of Assembly was, however, cut short by the military abortion of the democratic process by late General Sani Abacha. That notwithstanding, he assisted then Governor Moses Orshio Adasu in establishing Benue State University, Makurdi. Jime again ran on the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party for the Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in 2007 and won. After his first term in the National Assembly, he was returned again in 2011 for the 7th National Assembly whose tenure will expire on 29th May, 2015. In 2014, he was a governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress, (APC) but the did was unsuccessful, after which he went to court to seek legal redress. He however withdrew his case against the State Governor, Samuel Ortom.[1] Thereafter he was appointed as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA where he currently is. On 2nd October 2018, the All Progressives Congress, in Benue State unanimously adopted Barr. Emmanuel Jime as the consensus governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections.[2] PERSONAL LIFEEmmanuel Jime is married to Comfort Jime nee Oklobia from Ogbadibo local government of Benue State, and has three children; Emmanuella, Emmanuel and Cynthia. |
