Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya is an academic center with a history that goes back to 1873, which has been growing from time to time, 125 years old, like a rock. This school is a testament to the fact that Mr. Ukabubanda Karunarathna's Nuwara Kalaviya is one of the 4 schools that started in 1873.It is said that in 1905 the school was taken over by the government and the history of the school is written as documentary evidence from 18.11.1928. Already, 46 principals led this school. The Principal of the school is the 47th. This school had been started as a mixed school of the government, is in the form of the following school building by 1935. The number of students in 1935 year is around 135. In 1940, the students at the Helsinki School Examination were examined by the students. In 1942, the students sat for the Senior School Certificate Examination. By 1929 the school was named as a mixed school. On 13.09.1946, 13 Tamil students had been studying here. The Tamil section has been established and its first teacher had been Mr. Rasiah. In 1922, 94 students and over 160 students had completed their studies at the end of that decade. In the 1930s, the number of students dropped, with the largest number of students being reported as 159 in 1938. In the 1940s, the number of students decreased further, and the highest number of students was again recorded as 159 in 1946. In the 50's, the number of students gradually increased, and the highest number of students was reported as 660 in 1959.
