Eric P. Feichthaler was the youngest ever person to declare his candidacy for and be elected as Mayor of Cape Coral, FL. He filed his paperwork with the supervisor of elections on August 12, 2004, and was elected on April 5, 2005. He was 32 when he began campaigning and was 33 on election day.[1] Cape Coral is Florida's 2nd largest city by land area. Under Mayor Feichthaler's leadership, the City Council became more cohesive and became a contender for the spring training site of the Cleveland Indians. The City Council opened its first City Charter Middle School and High School as well. Mayor Feichthaler held office during several major natural disasters including Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 and deadly tornadoes in 2007. While Mayor Feichthaler was in office, one of the 7 members of City Council died in office and another was removed over allegations of fraudulent job applications and performing the services of a realtor while being unlicensed.
