The European University Foundation is a network of universities committed to bring about a modern, strong and competitive European Higher Education Area. The EUF is also an advocate for a substantial increase of the quantity and quality of student mobility, regularly putting forward ideas, policies and recommendations. The network has a long history of promoting policy reform and contributing to the further development of the Erasmus programme.

History

The network, previously known as Campus Europae, was initiated by a group of German experts in Higher Education,  Dr. Konrad Schily[1],  former President of the Witten/Herdecke University, and Prof. Meinolf Dierkes[2], former President of the Social Science Research Center Berlin, in 1998. Following the support of several German Foundations, the network has been seated in Luxembourg in 2003, notably with the support[3] of Prime Minister Jean Claude Juncker.

From 2003 to 2014, Campus Europae has worked towards key actions that would set new standards of excellence in student mobility and enable students to study abroad more than once during their academic careers.

In 2015, after the initiative of Campus Europae network to broaden the scope of cooperation among its member universities and readjust its fields of activities under five pillars, the European University Foundation was created.

On the 13th of June 2017, during the celebrations[4] for the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus programme at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the European Commission launched the Erasmus+ Mobile app[5]. The mobile application, developed[6] by the European University Foundation, aims to guide young people throughout their Erasmus experience.
