Run with the LionsBackgroundEven though, the artist never officially explained the story behind the lyrics it is believed to be about his experiences during the pre-Eurovision promotional Africa tour. After concert in Namibia artist met a local boy named Maduru, who was believed to be raised by lions, when left in savannah as a baby following the local traditions. Another, non-official speculation involves artists support for England’s national football team, where “run with lions” is a metaphor for English players chasing a victory. None of these theories were officially confirmed by the artist, but accordingly to media it will be revealed during the live Eurovision song contest. ControversyArtist received acknowledgement from a local animal supporters LETA for putting to attention animal cruelty in the zoos as lyrics included lines “There’s no need to be afraid,…, We got love that can’t be caged”. In response to that, Kaunas Zoo park issued a statement saying “…we take care of our lions and we disapprove of such lyrics as those are barely political based”. The even protested by closing a zoo for a weekend from public. The dispute was settled by a former Lithuania’s Eurovision entrant Ieva Zasimauskaite, confirming that “song has no political message and it will look different after the contest, just when we are old”. Song also received some criticism from the public as for being performed in English rather than in Lithuanian to which artist ironically responded “lions do not understand Lithuanian and I do not understand Lionish, so going with English was the only logical sense”. Following this criticism even an alternative Lithuanian song name was proposed by Lithuanian Language Committee “Netampyk ūsų su liūtu” References[1][2][3][4]1. ^https://www.15min.lt/vardai/naujiena/eurovizija/lemiama-eurovizijos-kova-kas-keliaus-i-izraeli-1058-1107264 2. ^https://kaunas.kasvyksta.lt/2018/05/22/miestas/atsaukiama-zoologijos-sodo-rekonstrukcija-iniciatyva-perima-vilnius/ 3. ^https://www.delfi.lt/veidai/zmones/veslia-sukuosena-sasha-song-dziaugesi-neilgai-atlikejui-pavoge-priklijuojamus-plaukus.d?id=77807949 4. ^https://www.lrt.lt/projektai/eurovizija External links |
