BiographyEva Papamargariti was originally born in Larissa, Greece in 1987. Her work is mainly centered around time-based media such as, but not limited to, digital installations, gif animations, video, and a bit of printed material.[1]She specializes in creating 2d/3D rendered spaces and forms to create a unique environment with the concept centered around blurring the lines between the physical as well as digital world to create intricate dreamscapes and scenarios. [2]EducationEva studied her undergraduate in Greece, graduating from the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly with her diploma in Architecture in 2012. Eva received her Master’s degree in Visual Communication Design at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 2016.[3] CollaborationsPapamargariti has both collaborated with and created works for many brands as well as making her own artwork. She has made artwork for brands such as NIKE, Kenzo, MTV, Diesel, River Island, and Boiler Room as well as others. [4]Selected WorksFactitious ImprintsHer piece Factitious Imprints is a video which examines the way humans perceive and control nature today, focusing on the main recipient- the surface of Earth. Eva focuses on the manipulation and modifications humans impose on the terrain of earth. The artist used 3d modeling softwares while additionally using recording tools, sound composing software, and creating a lot of the textures from scratch, making it a more elaborate and multi-sourced effort.[5] ExhibitionsEva's art has been exhibited across the world. She's been exhibited in cities such as New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin, Seattle, Amsterdam, Shanghai, Toronto, Montreal, and Athens. Among the institutions and galleries she's been exhibited in are the New Museum, Whitney Museum, Tate Britain, Museum of Moving Image, MoMA PS1, Museum of Contemporary Art (Montreal). She was also exhibited in the Transmediale Festival in Berlin. -Non Standard - Group show at T-space,Milan, curated by Mattia Giussani, show duration 08 June - 23 July 2017- Precarious Inhabitants - Solo show at TRANSFER Gallery, New York, show duration 27 May - 7 July 2017- Obsene Creatures, Resilient Terrains - Two people show with Theo Triantafyllidis currently on view at Assembly Point, show duration 11 May - 17 June- Always a body, always a thing Paratoxic Paradoxes exhibition curated by Nadja Argyropoulou- Benaki Museum, Athens, 22 March - 21 May 2017[6][7]Notable Concepts Present in Work(Im)Material RealityEva's work focuses mainly on a concept of looking closely at the relationship between digital space and (im)material reality. The artist examines the way both our bodies and mind react to this relationship. There is a gap between the two- the space between being the focus of her investigations. She claims this state of in between is not only amplified but simultaneously blurred as the two become closer and closer through our increasing use of digital devices. Our bodies are evolving as digital media is more widespread in our day to day. It's come so far that our minds as well as our bodies are changing in the way we absorb, learn, and classify information. Eva adds, "What interests me more is this process of “re-writing” on this in-between area of material and immaterial, and the traces that both physical and digital actions leave as we move forward."[8] . One might even say that Papamargariti’s art fits under the term “new media” rather than simply “video art” due to it’s innovative mix of 3d CAD software, physical material and sound programs. [9] Digital LandscapePapamargariti found it important to create her own digital plane, an inter sectional place between digital reality and physical reality. Eva characterizes the only qualifications for objects on the plane as reflective, refractive and shiny. Other than that, anything can belong on this field. She works with complex to make the viewer feel confused about their perception of the material, combining organic textures with her digital space. This creates a new space for the viewer, a different reality. A reality that is both familiar and not, reminiscent of both the past and future. It’s a place where there are organic elements being compiled together to work with 3D digitally made objects. [10] . Her work is representational of what could happen to the future of humanity and the Earth, one in which she sees the Earth ultimately prevailing past humans. She suggests through imagery of invasive species and speech of the strength of the Earth that humans are an invasive species to our planet which will eventually be defeated by our environment, who has yet to meet a contender who can beat it thus far. This work can be related back to that of J. D. Darvis, a digital artist who believes that digital art is the only way to create art which is truly able to be representative of our race at this point in time and especially while referencing the future.[11] . This is the reason in which Eva feels drawn to the subject matter she covers, seeing as this digital medium with limitless possibilities is the only way to properly represent happenings in today's world as well as happenings of our future.
