Farida Huq (Bengali: ফরিদা হক) is Bangladeshi writer, social activist, and a professor of English, having retired after four decades of teaching and education management in government institutions and, public and private universities. She is the president of the Rotary Club of Dhaka North West (2018-2019). She is the author of “My Journey Through 1971”, an autobiographical reminiscences about her days through Bangladesh's liberation war in 1971 while staying in Pakistan.[1] Early LifeFarida Huq was born on May 22, 1941 in Kolkata, India (then British India). Her father was ASM Osman, superintendent of Police Services of Pakistan. Professor Huq obtained her Masters in English from Karachi University and BA Honor’s in English Language and Literature from University of Dhaka. As an English language teaching professional, she started her career back in 1965 with College of Home Economics, University of Dhaka. Her husband was retired Brigadier General Sirajul Haque (1936-2012), the former chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).[2] Career in Teaching and Education ManagementProfessor Huq enriched her career specializing mainly in Classroom Teaching, Educational Management, Teacher Training, Foundation Training for officers of BCS Education cadre, and Educational Administration and Management Training to the heads of Secondary, Higher Secondary, and Tertiary levels institutions. As a career teacher she worked at several stages as a Lecturer in English in College of Arts and Crafts, and Assistant & Associate Professor and Head of the English Department in Titumir Government College, a Professor of English & the Principal of Pabna Girls College & Ghior Government College, and the Director of Training at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) from 1997-2001. Current and Social ActivitiesProfessor Huq provides skill-based English Language courses at different training institutes that include University of Liberal Arts, Open University, National Academy for Educational Management NAEM, and Democracy-Watch.[3] She is a Paul Harris fellow Rotarian, and is the president of the board of directors of Rotary Club of Dhaka North West for the 2018-2019 term.[4] She provides voluntary services to the Rotary School at Mirpur, Dhaka, an non-profit organization run by the Rotary foundation. She was the Secretary General of Bangladesh Federation of Business and Professional Women (BFBPW), the secretary of Bangladesh Project 5 “O”, and member of the Bangladesh Federation of University Women (BFUW).
