The book focuses on Sylvia Faye Patterson, one of the students permitted and interviewed to go to Central High School when it integrated in 1957, Little Rock, Arkansas.[2] Though Sylvia Faye Patterson is a fictional person, the historical events depicted in the novel are accurate.
