The flag of former Gwadar Principality is based on the Civil State Ensign of the Flag of Pakistan without the canton, The red colour traditionally Red in Islam, reflecting the historical red banners of the Caliphate. In Oman, red was also a colour traditionally used to represent the Sultanate region. Red has considerable historic significance in Pakistan, proclaiming the descent from royal Alaouite dynasty. This ruling house was associated with the Islamic prophet Muhammad via Fatimah, the wife of Ali, the fourth Muslim Caliph. Red is also the colour that was used by the Sharifs of Mecca and the Imams of Yemen.
